The CRC for Mental Health is committed to ensuring the translation and adoption of CRC research findings into practical solutions for people with mental illnesses, medical practitioners, aged care workers and carers in general.
As an example, the CRC has collaborated with end user Mercy Health to hold knowledge exchange days where our early career researchers spend time embedded in aged care facilities. Students gain an understanding of the aged care sector and of the experiences of personal care workers, as well as gaining direct experience and understanding of the illnesses they research. As part of the program, aged care workers gain a greater understanding of how research aims to impact their day to day work.
The program helps create an environment where research is informed directly by those affected by mental illness, and personal care is informed by the work that is being done in research. Together, these help to improve the translation of research outcomes into health care practice.
